Thanks Dorset. All of mine are in saucers with water too. I learned this accidentally. Maura; as far as I know Phrag. kocachii hybrids are easier to grow than the species but primary hybrids are a little easier.

BTW a lot of folk in UK grow Phrags in rock-wool cubes. I don't - I have never grown a good plant in that material , but the thing about it is that you can pour water and feed in every time you pass the plant - three toimes a day - and if it likes it, my- doesn't it grow.

This phrag. is the most impressive I picked up - the stalk is about 2 1/2 feet tall, with 2 (now dropped) blooms and 3 more buds to come (crossing my fingers).... this photo was taken just after the second (perfect) flower dropped yesterday, which is why it's "floating in space".

This is a pretty large bloom - about 3" across and 3 1/4" long - and a fiery red/orange with a bit of dark crimson accent.
