    Default Cymbidium noid

    Hi everyone. Need your help to id this cymbidium. Bought it without tag frm local nursery here. I'm pretty sure the owner knew but he wasnt around at that time. However, this plant was placed together with other orchid species. Some info-a terrestrial cymbidium, soft n sharp pointed leaves and flowers emit soft citrus like smell. I suspect this is Cymbidium ensifolium alba, but I like to hear frm other member's comment. Many thanks in advance

    Nice flowers. Looks like a very short plant -- especially for a cym.

    I guess its a form of one of the species ; I have started to get interested in them after seeing them shown here ; bought myself the Kew monograph on the subject,( heavy reading ! ) and have ordered a couple to collect next month in London ( aloifolium and bicolour); but offering opinions on names is a long way away , et !

    Could be Cymbidium ensifolium or sinense one of this species can bloom in lowland I got the common one nice smell as you said, nice alba form Abiom.

    I have a ensifolium Album - it looks much like yours. The only problem is the foliage looks a little more narrow and it might just be an optical illusion but smaller, as well.
    The fragrance is one of the best scents in orchids.

    Rules of latin names... all the endings should match... hence- cymbidium, album, ensifolium.... ( but it is a bit more complicated than that - which is why it is sinense, not sinensium ).

    The album name is just a variety, I think. I'm not an expert in cymbidiums. I just collected a few species that will grow well in Florida and that was all because of the fragrance.
    I did find something you might like to read on the matter. I think you can translate it in google.
