a recommendation?

Evening, Everyone:

Unfortunately, I've come to the conclusion that the conditions in my dorm room are just too poor to let my dendrobium grow nicely. On top of that, it has root rot, and I don't think it's going to pull through. That means a spot on my plant table, so can anyone recommend an orchid that likes low light, low humidity, and potentially changing temps (from quite hot 70+ to quite low 40 or 50 degrees F). Conditions are tricky to make nice for orchids here. Thanks!

Hmmm Maybe the Orchidus Plasticus Plantius would work. With Low Light, Low Humidity and madly swinging temps I can't think of anything that would like that... except maybe the pothos vine...

How bout one of the cooler growing Paphs like insigne or spicerianum?

those paphs should be ok as long as the temps don't go much below 50 and you don't have a cold draft anywhere. they won't thrive but may still bloom if you can manage to get them *some* light.

If you really want to grow orchids, I would look into getting a dorm room with a better window or maybe a light stand. that's how I grew them in college.

Thank you everyone! I think I'm just going to have to buy a light stand and set it up under my bunk. Any suggestions of what brands to buy/where to buy them, for an un-astronomical amount of $$? I'm a poor college student. Thanks again!

if you're just starting off, they have this "gro-light" that screws into a regular incandescent fixture. don't remember the name offhand but it oughta be good for a few plants.

I had a phalaenopsis under an incandesant (sorry, its late, so if my spelling was poor on that one, forgive me...its 10:37...god I feel old thinking that is late ). Anyway, I just bought one os those plant lights that you screw into a regular light socket. It worked fairly well when I was in college, even in cold Vermont (in my 130 + year old dorm room).
