Thanks for that info Betty, I am really looking forward to this plant growing up. I think its hybrid with Brassavola nodosa will definitely be fragrant, it looks even more lovely try to find Broanthevola Red Thompson. Attached find a picture from Orchidwiz, I would be very happy if I could lay my hands on this one.
I can see were this orchids flowers could produce quite a 'happy aura' Amey. Love the smooth outline form and the bright colors. These blooms in mass would be a wonderous sight to behold. AL
I do like the Broughtonia hybrids - but they don't see to appear this side of the Atlantic very often.
I went to Jamaica once on a cruise, and did that rafting down the Rio something or other which all the tourists do there ( why not - I was a tourist, after all ! ) and lay back and looked at those giant trees which extend across the river 50 feet above my head, and looked longingly at the Broughtonias growing up there, with their long spikes waving gracefully in the breeze - I would have loved to have got closer ... I did see some which had been collected and then nailed to trees at hotels etc, which were in good view, but not quite the same as the natural ones.
Beautiful. One I definately would like to have but keep saying no more catts. Am loosing that battle.LOL I have to get a greenhouse!
Definitely greenhouse time for you Bill. You would so love it! AL
Thanks a lot Geoff, Al and Bill. I also think you need to get a GH Bill, its ok to spoil yourself once in a while hehe.
Our Guaritonia Why Not was blooming recently. Great little orchid!!

Amey,
The selfing looks exactly like the original.
The Broughtonia sanguinea influence is very strong.
I wonder how many generation it takes to minimize this dominance.
What a lovely, attractive color.
