Phal tetrapis pollination

This was pollinated on 01.5.2012. The pods area forming. Another strange development was changes in colors of the whole flower. Does this happen to other species/hybrids, or it happend randomly? Though i didn't see such phenomena when i successfully cross pollinated my bellina.

the same thing happen to my phal violecea the last time i pollinated it, the flowers just turn totally luster green!! How is wihs i had a violecea of that color. seen this as well in orchid nursery couple of times.
but some other phals for eg my phalenopsis pulcherrima, the flowers just gradually turn yellow and withers off while the ovary begin to swell.

since i don't grow many orchids but will be gradually adding more, and am sure many will have slight changes to flower colours after pollination, interesting observation, Ian.

I think it is normal and common for violacea and other stauroglottis (small-flowered) type phals to have their petals turn all green once they form pods. I've seen it many times.

Beautiful tetrapis. I had a V. coerulea bloom turn white when it was pollinated. I think Naoki's did the same on his coerulea.

That effect, Robert, happens at some orchids usually and ... is done on purpose. Some insects don´t serve as pollinators only but some are mean pollen-thieves as the pollinium is rich on proteins and an ideal nurishment for the insects´ brood. Especially ants and wesps are among those thieves.
Another reason for the phenomena you described propably is that the original pollinator shouldn´t visit and disturb the flower anymore.
