I have been unable to sleep at night worrying about your orchid Roy.
Obviously, the night temps in Victoria are too low for your plant.
I would strongly advise you to send it back to Queensland where it was born in the hope the plant will recover.
As a service to a fellow forumite, I am prepared look after it and send progress reports to you over the next several years.

Roy--so sorry about your plant, but I bet it blooms beautifully next time...I hope so anyway!

I do thank you for your concern & offer of plant supervision. I now have a bottle of herbicide quite ner the plant to convince it to do the right thing next time.

    Hello Roy
So sorry to see what is happening to your flower. I hate to mention this, but are there any other signs other than the deformed flowers which would cause you concern with the plant?. I am thinking here of "crippling" due to the dreaded Virus. I am suggesting that you seperate this plant from your others until you rule out this possibility.

Anythings possible Angela, I've given the plant an indepth inspection, I don't see anything to indicate virus and this is part of a plant a highly respect nursery here uses for breeding. I think the change in locations didn't help. On reflection, the sheaths were there for an eternity before the buds appeared which would also add to the problem.

Very sorry about the catt, Roy. In my place it's not the cold but the heat (at least that's what I think). It's very hot at the moment with plenty of rain and I have a couple of cattelyas behaving just like that - Lc Chan Hsiu Jewel and Rlc Three Suns.

Catts can just throw a mutation. I think anyone that has grown then for any length has seen it and more often with crosses between full lipped and cut lipped.
Take heart and know it will bloom again
