I noticed a couple days ago that my pleuro was in bloom and today when I went to take pictures, the plant was barely hanging from it's mount. So today I put it on the driftwood with Sweet Sugar. I also added a new Laelia alaorii to the mount as well. The laelia is a mini, and i'm guessing in a year or so it will be ready to bloom. I have been bored, so a ton of repotting and mounting has been going on this weekend. lol

We don't often see Pleuro's on this site , and I didn't know you grew them Connie. I have been collecting Mazzies and Pleuros for a yearor two now, since I discovered that although a lot of them are notionally "cool house" they actually stand warmer days quite well, In fact, on the hottest day in the year so far - in England, this year - when unfortunately I was hanging around the local hospital all day with my wife whilstshe had various things attended to, the temp. in my orchid house went way too high ( 42) without me there to do anything about it. I lost most Vanda spikes, a dozen or so tiny plants - mostly Vandaceous seedlings, damaged the leaves of the Phaius ( thin leaves damage so easily ) but catts and oncids - all in S/H were OK , due no doubt to the standing water, but so were all the Pleuros etc . I'm getting flowers, but have not posted anything yet, as of course most of the plants are still fairly small, ad I think they do need to fillout a bit and carry several - preferably a lot - of spikes before they are worth much.

I ordered this one as it had on the info that it was temp. tolerant. It always looks kinda stressed in the summer, but blooms just the same. I hope it likes the new mount as it never did much good on the old one. I just check where they come from and make sure they are lowland plants and if they come from a coastal area it's even better. Now that I have narrowed my growing to those I'm much more successful.

Now that I'm better with the mounted plants i'm guessing they will thrive. When I see new roots on them i'll know they are okay. If they don't look good I have a nice piece of cork waiting for them. Back when I first began mounting orchids I didn't understand they needed to be watered nearly every day during the summer here. I have since corrected that and my mounted plants thrive.

I don't know/forget what you use Connie, but I have a DAB 102 pump -driven by what you used to be rated as 1 HP mains voltage motor when I first bought one many years ago - I am on a replacement now which looks exactly the same but is rated in watts I expect. I think these are Italian made. Gives great water flow up to 6 bar pressure, which easily feed one inch hoses with lances and foggit nozzle sprays - enables me to spray a couple of thousand plants with say 5 or 6 gallons of water, in 20 minutes or so - and that is the answer for growing bare root plants or plants on plaques/mounts/bare wood branches. But you have to be around to do them virtually every day, as you say.
Actually I cut down to every other day in our English winters, unlss theweather is sunny , and increase totwice daily in hot weather.
Its a great way to get plants wet and dry alternately and rapidly..
