Oncidium Sweet Sugar

For some reason I have always had a problem blooming yellow oncidiums. Sweet Sugar has more than made up for my past frustrations. It sent up a spike in May which finally started to bloom a few weeks ago. A second nice spike appeared in June. I should have flowers well into autumn on this one since the second spike has a ways to go before it begins to open

Bill, I adore these! Sweet Sugar was the first orchid I ever bloomed on my own. I wish I still had the plant...lost it to the sun along with a few others.

I have a soft spot for these yellow oncidiums. They always provide such cheery brightness for weeks and months.

Mine is taking it's sweet time unfurling each flower. I too love the oncids. Around here the spidery ones do well and my sweet sugar on the driftwood. All others succumb to the heat and humidity. Gotta love all those flowers at one time. Can't wait until mine gives that many blooms at a time!

Beautiful! I think Sweet Sugar is one of the best yellow oncidiums available. Mine is a reliable bloomer and the flowers seem to last a long time.

i think i have recently gotten one of these. i got a noid oncid at a grocery store. pretty sure it is a sweet sugar. it has a few wilted flowers now from our 'heat wave' but i am going to plant it outside, in a bright spot this weekend. the clouds of pure yellow will really brighten up the shady end of my balcony. aren't these just so terribly cheerful? a lot of people sell divisions locally here just calling them 'dancing ladies' and some don't even know they are orchids. might pick up some of those too, to try a few different spots with different light levels. i see people saying to attach them to trees in the sun, but i think they will burn??? bill, how much sun does yours get? it is blooming quite nicely! very full and unblemished looking flowers!

I have just noticed that my Sweet Sugar noid is putting out two spikes. I am so excited. It is the first time for me. I hope they looks at full and bushy as yours.
