Well, maybe I'm placing too much emphasis on the dorsal then. My lip is much narrower than yours and Gin's. That fat, grinning lip is all Haynaldianum. (Plus, no grex is mentioned, so the ordering on the tag may or may not be that precise.)

I'm posting my front-on view. I thought the side view made a nicer photo, but you don't really see the flower well.

You also got kazoodils of blooms - nice! I got two with this first blooming, but no complaints. The flowers are handsome and I'm thrilled it's flowering!

nice colorful primary hybrid...whichever way it's made. I think anytime you combine two multifloral species you get a wide range with regards to petal stance--the colors and patterning usually don't differ too much. i.e. all saint swithins pretty much look the same, but some have totally pendant petals and once in a while you get one that looks like a roths. philippinense is quite dominant for pendent petals to some degree--take berenice, phil x lowii. very rarely will you get one with outstretched petals like the lowii.

How big's your plant Julie? Mine is huge... it has two unflowered old growths, this flowering growth and another four new growth... it pretty much takes up half of my growing space... but I want to see if it might send more than one spike at a time...

I think I like the lip on yours better... it just seems neater.. and the petal colours on yours is more red... unlike mine which is hmm... browny red... still it flowers so I also cannot complain

That is very beautiful, Julie! There is so much grace in these flowers that we just couldn't get enough of!

I love these multifloral paphs, species and hybrids! I am not so big on those bull dog paphs and maudia type even though I have a few of them! But I am extremely fond of these multifloral ladyslippers. Some of my sanderianum hybrids are attaining blooming size or have previously bloomed and their rigorous growths are maturing! Maybe they will bloom in a few months. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Gee, Hoa, I had such high regards for your taste in orchids.... but to not love bulldogs - - well, perhaps we can convert you!! What's an orchid collection with out a xtra floofy catt, an equestris phal and a bulldog paph??

I'm not sure how mine compares size-wise, so I just snapped a pic of the plant. It's not tiny, but I wouldn't call it huge either. Just bulky. Whatever happened to those petite little slippers??

I try not to worry which I like better. I can sort of talk myself into anything. I like mine better...because it is mine!

oh that is a great windowsill set up.... what a treat for those winter days... mines definitely a lot larger.. so fingers crossed it blooms more next time...

that is also one amazing looking bonsai! I can't grow em... the longest I've had one... and I've tried a few... is three months

Aren't they beautiful? Twisty petals and all! These multifloral need to build up their strength before they could bloom! And that is a lovely set-up! Snow outside yet all cozy and warmth by the window! I missed my days living in Boston and Massachusetts!

Diane, Convert me? Hmm ... Actually I have all of the three; like really really really floofy catts (blooms "bigger than" our head!), phal equestris (a big monster with basal keiki growth, a three plant clump with fragrant flowers in bloom right now in fact, and a previously bloomed smallish plant!), and a few bulldog paphs (some in bloom, I might post some pictures when I remember getting their name tags). But I don't have a hundred of bulldog paphs like I have hundreds of catts or multifloral/brachy/parvi paphs.

I was wondering if you knew the pod parent of your Lebaudyanum, but I've abandoned that train of thought.

It would be cool to have a forum for photo talk. I've learned a lot from some of the pros here. There are clearly 'tricks' that help, depending on what equipment you have and how much trouble you're willing to go to.

I have a set of pics I took the other day, where I played with lighting. The sequence is neat, in that different light angles gave the resulting photos totally different looks and feels.
