Does anyone out there have this cross

I have a chance to buy an in-first-bud sanderanium x rothchildianum (Spelling???) They do not list a name for the cross, don't know if it really does have a hybrid name.

Anyway - Does anyone have one of these or have you seen one in bloom. The photo they show looks awfully appealing.... The bloom has the pouch shape and some coloration of the roth, and most of the sand coloration and the long twisting petals from the sand.

They also have a yummy looking Michael Koopowitz in bud, and a roth (roth 15 x roth 16) 5 year old plant for $80....

That is Prince Edward of York (PEOY). A must-have in any respectable paph collection, hehehe, kind of kidding of course!!! That is an amazing/awesome plant. And I don't use these adjectives very often. I have a few of those from young seedlings to mature plant.
The problem is you must make sure the parents are good ones!

Which is the more typical pod parent in a PEOY? I always thought the Roths, but how much does it vary?

Diane, there's huge variation between the different PEOY crosses. Similar to what I found with my Roths research. The trouble is that seedlings are sold before they've bloomed, so there's no guarantee quite what you're getting (there's huge variation in every seed cross.)

And it's tough to get photos of the blooming sized plants in flower. Don't know if this helps - it's more a caution that unless you saw the particular grex you were buying (and even that depends on what generation cross it was), you won't know what you have until it blooms.

This vendor also has Prince Edward of York, and the picture of it's blooms are quite different from the plant they are calling sand x roth.

Their sand x roth has more red/purple pouch, longer pouch, Green in the dorsal, more pink on the petals.

Soooo Would you buy their sand x roth and keep the label sand x roth, or would you buy it and mark it PEOY, or would you not buy it at all...

Prince Edward Of York is definitely sanderianum x rothschildianum.

The two plants you have shown is the same grex, ie PEOY. However, each cultivar will be different... a bit like the children in a family will look similar but still have their individual traits... and will either look more like Dad or mum.. unless the postie's been round...

80 bucks for a 5 year old roth... hmm... not sure... but that is the limit of what I have spent on orchids so far... and not knowing what the flower was either... as it turns out... I was quite happy with the result... ie, it was the Paph Lebaudyanum.. as per thread somewhere...

btw, apologies for the way this is being written, brain half functioning as I've just come home after a few too many laps of the pool...

Feel free to PM me with the source--I don't know them all but I know a few to avoid with a 10-foot pole.

PEOY is the most spectacular paph hybrid in my estimation, MK is also very nice but a good PEOY will knock your socks off. (And there are no bad ones).
