Vanda Paki (cristata x tricolor suavis)
ok! this little guyhas given me 2 more flowers. this time from the other side of the stem. the scent of 7-up or citrus soda is stronger this time. the flowers are very close together and almost seem to be putting their arms around each other. last time this flowered (in august... http://www.rv-orchidworks.com/orchid...anda-paki.html) i treated myself to a cristata hybrid crossed with a renanthera and got a bonus seedling of a renanthera tom thumb... this time i ordered myself a flowering size v. pachara 'dark red' that looks lovely on line...i just hope the red will be as temperature tolerant as the more common blue variety. i adopted a 'buy a new one only if i flower one' method of limiting my orchid spending, but i think this paki is gonna blow a hole in my bank account if it keeps this up. i've only had this since maybe last may, but i will keep it outside all winter here in socal. it gets very early am sun, like as the sun rises, but otherwise very bright shade. my balcony is protected from the wind and cold rain. i have been careful to fertilize the vandas weakly weekly and they seem to be liking that approach. they seem to need a little more than the oncidiums to keep growing.
