BLC Sanyung Ruby 'Grand Dragon'

Some of you have been discussing the issue of some of these big Catts not opening out flat but maintaining a more 3D form... Here are the promised photos of BLC Sanyung Ruby 'Grand Dragon' taken this afternoon... first with me (for scale):



...and with dad (he is less scary, and the light was better across the conzie):



I was surprised to see 4 blooms this year... I thought I should expect no more than 3 as before. In this photo from last year I THINK the blooms were a bit larger when they were only 3... Anyway, this plant always gives me the shivers (in a good way)- everything about it is outsize. And on top of it all, there is the perfume...

That is one amazing cattleya for certain! Very nice. And I loved the pictures of you and your dad...it's always nice to put a face to friends on the website. I hope you will continue getting chills from all your plants. I still get tickled, even when the plant just gives me a single flower.

Beautiful, Igor! (And the Sanyung Ruby, too!) I've had a couple of different clones and I was lucky to have 2 blooms at a time - yours is just gorgeous - and I think the photo with your Dad is precious - speaks many volumes for you.

Just occasionally!!! No, I'm joking- actually it is nice how in the winter we get "safe" sunshine... so all the blinds are up, the sun streams in, and it is pleasantly warm when outside it is freezing. The other part of the year no sun is allowed in or it would fry everything, as you can imagine! So you get used to completely even, milky, filtered light... and that makes the dramatic Winter sun a very welcome guest.

A very amazing, healthy Grand Dragon. I think if you just leave it 2 - 3 flowers, the flowers are much more larger. If you take this catt. to a festival, I bet it will get First or Second Prize.
