Some of you have been discussing the issue of some of these big Catts not opening out flat but maintaining a more 3D form... Here are the promised photos of BLC Sanyung Ruby 'Grand Dragon' taken this afternoon... first with me (for scale):

I was surprised to see 4 blooms this year... I thought I should expect no more than 3 as before. In this photo from last year I THINK the blooms were a bit larger when they were only 3... Anyway, this plant always gives me the shivers (in a good way)- everything about it is outsize. And on top of it all, there is the perfume...

No, I'm joking- actually it is nice how in the winter we get "safe" sunshine... so all the blinds are up, the sun streams in, and it is pleasantly warm when outside it is freezing. The other part of the year no sun is allowed in or it would fry everything, as you can imagine! So you get used to completely even, milky, filtered light... and that makes the dramatic Winter sun a very welcome guest.
