I was hoping for a twisty petal one. Needless to say, I'm a bit dissapointed. Total of three flowers in a spike.

It may not be twisty petalled, but gosh the flowers are a beautiful color and pattern!
Well, in that, it is very pretty and seems to be happy sharing our space![]()
You shouldn't be disappointed - looks as if the flower has just opened and the petals may grow longer and twistier in a few more days. Even if they remain the same it is still beautiful overall and this particular one has an unusually attractive full dorsal.
Another beautiful philippinense .
I think it's beautiful. I certainly wouldn't be disappointed.
Very beautiful I love Philipinensis

Quite nice though!
What sets this variety apart from philippinense?
Its quite striking with that wide, open pattern as opposed to the finer striping I have seen on a lot of the pictures. It may not have been quite what you were hoping for but its still an amazing flower!
Some say that var. roebelinii has a much longer petals than var laevigatum. I believe that that trait is just a normal variation between the species as it is very wide spread. However, I do have a no. of different clones ranging from small to very large. So I just tend to keep what the label says for identification. But to me they are all just philippinense.
Actually the flower is not finished opening yet at the time of the picture. It is actually a better flower and it turned out the one I was hoping for. I will post a new one once the third bud opened up.
