Cane problem on dendrobium?

My new dendrobium came with two very nice-looking canes about ten inches tall, and a newer one, also healthy, which is about three inches so far. But then it has this other cane, only about an inch tall so I'm assuming its newer, with only two small leaves which are yellowed and closed. Today one of those leaves fell off when I touched it.

I'm wondering if anyone can tell what is wrong with this plant, and what if anything I might do for it. Since it is in bloom, I'm assuming i should wait to repot.

The tag says D.?URANA MAX #2, where '?' Represents a letter that's mostly rubbed off so I can't tell what it is. Could be a D, B, R, or P.

The smaller cane may actually be an older cane from when the plant was smaller or near blooming size. If that is the case, it is normal for older canes to drop their leaves. They will slowly dry out and you can remove it when it dries out if you'd like. I leave the older canes on until they dry out, because even without leaves they remain healthy and act like batteries that can store energy for the rest of the plant. If it is a new growth since you bought it, you may have an issue with roots or the sun levels may be too low. Dendrobiums are sun loving plants. They can take all but full sun if you slowly move them into higher sun levels. Best of luck, it is a gorgeous thing!

that missing letter is a B. there are a lot of 'burana' named dendrobiums that have similar flower shape.

Thanks Connie, I hope it is an older cane, it came that way with the plant. I just love the way dendrobiums grow, the canes look like little trees...

i bought a few of these years ago, in a few colors. didn't know how much light they needed to flower though. ended up giving them away. now i know where to place them to get them flowering, and of course cannot find any! they were cool little plants. enjoy it!

Coeruleo, can you tell me something about where they need to be placed to flower? I just bought this little guy about a week ago, already flowering, so I'm not sure if I have it in a place where it will flower again. All my orchids are on tables by large windows in our 'sunroom', which is an east facing room with a glass door to the north and the main orchid windows meet at angles: east, northeast, and southeast. There is another window, where the dendrobium is, which faces south. Of course there is more light here than anywhere in the house, because its octagonal shape with windows on 5 angled walls bounces what light there is around in the room

Now this all sounds pretty good when you read about placing orchids, but we do live in Maryland, famous for its overcast days (at least to me...), and there is forest behind our house. Though we do have some yard between us and the forest, it does cut down on the light to some extent in the summer. Do you think this is enough light for the dendrobium?
