3 new Noid orchids

Picked these up today from a supermarket.

Burrageara Nelly Isler "Swiss Miss" is the first one. not sure what the second, dark red one is, but i love it!!!. the 3rd with yellow is most likely an Odontiocidium Wildcat variety.

all are great, beats my supermarket, all they have are phals and half are dyed blue

I also have Burrageara Nelly Isler. I personally recommend keeping this plant quite humid if you can (I struggle..), only because mine has been getting corrugated leaves (it has still re-flowered for me), but it does like a bit of spray.

Your second red one looks most similar to this in my opinion:

I also think (in my opinion) that the 3rd one looks like Odontocidium Wildcat Carmela. (This is all from searching Google, but just to try to help. It is annoying to have an orchid without an ID. My big Cymbidium and Zygopetalum are Noids, although I am pretty sure what my Cymbidium is now).

Yeah, I figured that last one was a wildcat. I've seen either the same one or really close to it on a website I buy from. Good to have a name for that first one, even though I figure if I end up losing one, that will be the one. It looked to me like it had Miltonia in it, and I've already sent a Miltonia to permanent dormancy. There were actually two of those at the store yesterday, and the other one would have been the one I would have bought, but when I went back today, it was gone. The dark red one has all of its air roots snipped so it was nice and neat in the container, but the plant is healthy looking, with three flowering plants and six back bulbs, so I think I should be all right with that one.

I almost bought a fourth. I thought it was a Sharry Baby at first, but it was something else with "Heaven's Scent" in the name. Tons of tiny fragrant purplish flowers on large-bulbed plants. I didn't buy it because the plant cluster was massive, and I'm already sort of hurting for space. They had four pots of that type.

i recently got some old back-bulb divisions of Nelly Isler. i was told to keep it out of direct sun at all costs. i am nursing a different Wildcat back to health right now, got one that was almost completely without roots!

I believe that it is now 'Oncidopsis' Nelly Isler, and that it likes shade in the summer, and a bit more light in the winter (if in a temperate climate).

I have lots of Noids, and it sort of irritates me too, but that is just the way it goes. Sometimes we just like ones we see at a supermarket that don't have tags, but that is not going to keep me from buying it.

My Grandmother got me back into orchids this time (and the original time), and I ended up with what was left of her collection. (She had been downsizing for quite a while.) Not a one had a tag. She had grown orchids for at least thirty years, probably forty or more. I don't think it bothered her at all, but I never asked. She just loved the plants and flowers.

Anyway, 'Wildcat Carmela' sounds familiar. I'll have to check into that.

As for the second one being a Blood Ruby, I don't think so. My picture probably didn't do it justice. I'll take another closer one in a second. I have what some on here have suggested is a Wildcat Blood Ruby. Here is a picture of it. I posted it a while ago, and this is off of a second spike that it sent up after the first was done. It just opened its third flower of eleven on this spike.



Here is a repost of the second Noid I got today. It is hard to get a good picture of it because of how the flowers are arranged. The lip is somewhat magenta instead of blood red.

I see what you mean. Your suggested Blood Ruby in the top photograph is a gorgeous plant by the way, very healthy. The second one looks very similar to that of another member on this forum:

The lady also did not know what her's was though, but if it appears fairly frequently it would logically have a traceable name. I found this out just by typing 'Oncidium red' into Google images, as it looks a lot like an Oncidium hybrid to me...And just to see what came up.

I've been nursing my whole collection back to health this year it seems like. LOL
