Denver Orchid Society Spring 2014 Show and Sale

The Denver Orchid Society had it annual Spring Show and Sale this weekend. Hosted at Tagawa Gardens, a huge retail nursery in Centennial Colorado.

And thanks to Ron, who first informed me of this event. I bought 3 today at the sale. I got my Jewel orchid, another den Nobile, and a hard cane (?) den Genting Royal which had its big inflorescence of 2, break off on the way home!!!

It was my first show. IMO, they could have done better labeling the categories and the big winners. But the show was cool. Lots of dangling petaled paphs and phrags. Phals, catts. Not too many exotics.

I bought Ludisia Discolor.
It has 2 spikes almost fully open and 2 more in development. 2 pics below.

Nice Ludisia! I've been to some large shows over the years. Came home once with way too many new plants. The first orchid show I ever went to was in San Diego in 1985. When I went to the Miami Show there were some South American vendors there...that was nice!! I like shows but have none planned this year.

One thing I'm going to do differently this year when we have our Spokane Orchid Society show the end of March is to take pictures of both the flowers AND the names of the plants so I know which ones I fell in love with.
