Strange bud on my Hiroshima Melody Blue LC

This Lc I got last autumn. It arrived with a new small growth at the base of one adult pseudobulb. It stayed that way until February when it started to grow. I was expecting a leaf, but to my suprize I got a bud. So one big bud, on a very short pdeudobulb with no leaf. I guess traveling disturbed the plants normal growing cycle, but I am also curious what is your opinion about this.

that is pretty weird! but i think mailing orchids does affect them in strange ways, i get a lot of growths that never develop it hink due to being in a dark box for 3 or 4 days. but hey, it is going to flower!

That's How Cattleya walkeriana blooms. One of the parents of this grex is Cattleya Sea Breeze which is walkeriana x warneri. I'd say that the walkeriana genes are influencing this blooming cycle. Completely normal when walkeriana is "up there" in the breeding.

I agree with Clint - that is a characteristic of C walkeriana.

so, will this grow leaves after flowering? or do they sometimes just not have leaves?

No leaves...just an "orphaned" catt spike
