Anticipating blooms

You hit the nail on the head. Seductive, sensual is that color. I actually have one of my bedrooms painted that color. I really like it. I want an Orchid that color.
The paint is called "raspberry".

kdennis14, that's a good choice of color ID: RASPBERRY.....or almost like an "iridescent watermelon", LOL! I tend to gravitate toward SYMMETRICAL things - see Fluorite banded sphere (plants, flowers, mineral, specimens, home decorations, etc.). I think it goes back to the other question I posted about why so many people are addicted to orchids (for me, it would be, in this case, the symmetrical appeal of the flower AND the color, as I'm a "visual" person). I also like unusual leaves, such as variegated or the few that are spotted..again the "visual" qualities. I've attached a variegated Sediera japonica (cute little bugger) .

Cute sed japonica! Mine is not variegated. Has yours bloomed? Mine seemed to love getting into s/h and flowered for the first time shortly after getting into s/h.

Let me tell you an embarrassing story: this is really the second one I've had - like that little emoticon indicates in the :-) tab, the one that says, "oops, I broke off the spike", that applies to me.... However I sheared off the entire top of the plant from the stem...yeah, REALLY, and right before it was getting ready to bloom. I WAS JUST SICK. Being the addict and idiot that I am, refusing to be defeated, I bought ANOTHER ONE EXACTLY LIKE THE OTHER EXCEPT BIGGER - and like of all of us growers, I talked to it when I put it in the greenhouse, promising that I would treat it with respect and care. It's doing well, putting out new roots and leaves, but hasn't bloomed - I've only had it for about three months. SO THERE'S MY STORY

Breaking spikes is bad enough with going after the plant too! We learn to be more careful. But I have damaged 2 spikes myself recently. Not too bad but did reduce numbers of flowers. One is open now the other is still forming the buds.

My Phal cornu-cervi, is looking just great but hasn't really grown much, has a leaf that I cut off while unpacking it when it arrived in the mail. Is that why it is pouting and not growing?

I was taking Sediera japonica out of the greenhouse (the first plant) and accidentally pulled it out too close to the edge of the GH covering - it sheared off the whole top of it. I've never screwed up unpacking anything though but I'm sure that will happen :-))

78Terp, talk about "mess ups", I have one orchid that is in the path of something I need to get to on a regular basis. That plant has been knocked over no less then 8 to 10 times. Each time I hit it and it falls over, I curse (only at myself), and say to it, "Oh, jeez.... not again! What a dumb klutz I am! Man, I'm so sorry, please forgive me. I'll really try harder next time to pay more attention to what I'm doing!" I look down on the floor & there it is, with all the smallest size bark you can buy, perlite etc. (in other words, the very finest/tiniest mix). It's Schoenorchis gemmata. One time when it fell over, I looked at the roots and I thought "geez, they look kind of dry." I grabbed a water bottle nearby and poured it in. (I was running short on time so I did a "quick fix".). It's doing very well, by the way. Here's my theory: as long as you don't hurt the plant, it doesn't bother it to fall or have it removed from its media. I believe this is beneficial as it aerates the soil/turns over the media/repositions the plant which I feel is more helpful than harmful. Probably in nature, if a big storm or wind comes along, some may fall off of trees, blow across the ground, and end up somewhere else, growing there.

Looks like we are a lot alike. I am a visual person also. I have some cuties too. mini phals, I love them. I just got a new one 2 days ago. I will have to take a picture and post it. I really do love my orchids. I talk to them like I talk to my cats. Such a nice neat tag on yours. I live in a small town, and it is extremely difficult to find anything with a tag.
