Default Cymbidium Sarah Jean 'Ice Cascade' (pumilum x Sleeping Beauty)

Last year, a speaker at our local OS gave a talk on cymbidiums. He mentioned this particular orchid as a good and easy one to grow. I searched for it, and found 1 for sale. It bloomed about a month after I got it, and has bloomed again since then.

I understand that 'Ice Cascade' has some siblings in the Sarah Jean grex that are other colors as well, and will keep my eye out for them. My plant is still small, but if you search for images of this orchid online, you will see some huge specimens!

It's often seen over here too . I have a couple of examples - one had 4 spikes this year, and the other two. Can easily have far more, without being too large ( too large for me, these days, is anything bigger than an 8 or 9 inch pot. They are just too heavy to be handled comfortably and safely if bigger than that - especially since I do my watering by dunking plants in buckets.)
The spikes can be even more pendant than this, just hang down the side of the pot ; so I keep mine attached to pot hangers - as a reminder . Then when they start spikes, I hang them from wires running along the length of my growhouse. ( I do this for most of the cymbidiums, even those with upright spikes ).
The only cultivar I have seen on sale here is Ice Cascade, or somethimes in general garden centres, unlabelled ones, which are just plain white flowers. Orchidwiz shows ;pics of several different greens - usually with white lip - varying in intensity from a creamy pale green, to a dark apple green - labelled as Mint Sherbert - that is the palest - and Jennifer - the darkest . there is also one nice dark pink - Helen. But Ice Cascade is the most striking I think.

Ohhh Jealous as bleep! You lucky woman. I will need to keep an eye out. With the group of cymbids I've got going, I need to dedicate a spot to them and install a timer water system. I love those plants, they just give and give.
