A primary hybrid between infundibulum and ( from memory) formosa, but oh, so much better than both. Here seen with an incredible 30 buds and flowers - the third pic showing just buds, on the last to open cane - which has 12 . Quite remarkable. Great timing too - we have our biggest show in UK next week-end, and my plants will be on a Society stand. I usually have quite a few plants for the show, but this year can scrape up a bare dozen - my culture has gone off these last couple of months, due to overheating I am sure.Several possible cattleyas just opend their flowers and they went off in a few days. ( This dendrobe seemed to like it, however ! )
I have been working on the new shading system to limit heatr, which I discussed in a post a month or two ago - using the aluminium strip shade cloth, but had some difficulty working out how to do it, mainly because of the peculiarites of my greenhouse - but I made a prototype, corrected the mistakes, and tried out a Mark one version with a single roller blind , did some tests, modified the design again to work out what I think will be the final version which is now in manufacture ( i.e. I am making).
I need 10 blinds for the whole house, have so far made 6 - I hope to get it finished in another week or two, and then do the installation. If it is good, I'll post a piece about it ; if it doesn't work I expect I shall creep away and quietly change the subject....
