Cattleya Leopoldii is one of the tall cattleya species and can reach up to 4 feet. Culture is similar to other species.

Bright light will not enough for it. It needs direct sunlight to do well. But must protect from afternoon harsh sunlight.

They are warm loving species .

Adequate watering during active growth phase to avoid shriveling. As with all cattleya, use well drain potting mix. Fertilize once a week will do.

I looked up the OrchidWiz information. Your plant is found in dense swampy forests in the tops of trees in Brazil. I am guessing all but full sun and more water and higher humidity, somewhat like a vanda is necessary. Also; as grow in the tops of trees they will require a higher level of wind movement as well. Sounds like a plant that would love my vanda section...I may have to find one. lol

A winter rest is typically a combination of slightly cooler temperatures (coming from Brazil, "cool" is probably a bit lower temperature than "blazing hot") and absolutely no fertilizer. Most folks equate no watering with resting, and that can work for some, but I like to occasionally water "resting" plants with pure water to keep them hydrated.

I think the "now water" thing originates because that "rest" is during the relatively dry season ion the native habitat. Less rain = less food, but folks focus on the former, rather than the latter.

I have mine in my grow room at the SE facing window and she gets direct sunlight. In the Winter time that will be another conversation since in Germany we go weeks without seeing the sun. I need some grow lights for the Winter time.
Warm is no problem since the grow room has heating

I think "now" is a typo, and Ray meant "no" ? And yes, it is all relative. When I made my first orchid hunting tour in Thailand many years ago, I was told they have three seasons , and two of them are dry. After several visits - five - now, four of them in the "dry" season, I found that I usually had at least one heavy rain shower - often heavy enough to wake me in the night, every time I went.
Eventually I got some met' office statistics - and whilst the figures are different from place to place ( Thailand streches a thousnd miles and more from north to south ) there is hardly a month anywhere with less than two inches (5cm) of rain. Dry - yes - it's all relative, when there may be one month that gets 100 inches - 250 cm., then a mere 2 inches is dry.
