Good question, Ondy!
I actually have to do a talk this winter on the same topic and this is a great chance to organize my thoughts for 30 seconds!
I came up with the following main topics, but they would obviously vary by genus or section:
Light
Water amount, frequency and quality, winter rests as appropriate
Temperature and temp changes seasonally
Air movement
Fertilizer
Potting medium/Pot material
Pests
Diseases
*Music
* - Whatever certain thing you do that you think makes your plants happy. I've never read poetry to mine, but they seem to thrive when I bagpipe around them.
McJulie
and to think I get called crazy when I talk to my plants! Only if they knew that I am not the only oneBack on subject.... I completely second what Julie says
I would try to cover what Mcjulie has covered but not the water quality as its not a problem here in New Zealand

Ondy ,dont name orchid places. But yes they were well covered and it did not wash off very easy
The only thing I would add to Piper's list is:
Dividing
Hmmm - how long of a talk are you giving? With all the suggestions you could do a week long class. Perhaps you should test out what your audience may want to know - like what type of orchids are easiest, and how to pick a "good" one, and where they can download culture information...
