I almost bought one of these last week, but because I don't know much about the culture I resisted... however, if you can shed some light on how to grow these, you might just help me get one

It's not hard to grow. It flowers once every year for me, sometime around June, and it cannot be dried out. It grows well at east window with 40% shade (summer) or south window with 50%-60% shade (summer). It is one of the orchid type that you must have. I am not an orchid expert but this is not a tough one for me, so go ahead and get one for yourself!

does it suffer in the heat? we get some really hot days here and I always thought they like cooler conditions like Masdevallias...

I grow it indoors and during the hottest days in summer, the house could be 25C! It does not need cool temperatures as Masdevallias.

It's so pretty and delicate. You can see why they call it a Pansy Orchid.

oh... 25 C is not a lot... it's a cool day here in Sydney and the thermometer next to me, in my seedling grow area is 25.1C

just checked the maximum so far and it was showing 29.4C

I'm too scared to get one....

I think 29.4C is still ok for Milton. It doesn't hurt to give that a try if you really love this orchid.

I am so in love with this genus, but I've had a lot of trouble growing them. I don't kill many plants, but I can't keep Milts alive. They want high humidity, particularly when blooming, or the flowers won't open all the way, they can't dry out, and they like cooler temps. A hot summer is the usual coup de grace.

Give them a try Tim - they're magnificent in bloom and their scent will fill your house with roses. But be warned!
