Sunny, Frozen, Southern California

Well, in my neighborhood it got down to 28 last night, with winds up to 20 mph (gusts) as I live in a canyon. Needless to say, my outdoor plants are not designed for this kind of weather.

The birdbath had 1/2 inch of ice on it. The spigot for the hose was frozen, I had to pour warm water on it to get it running.

And I lost at least 4 spikes of cymbidiums, as they had broken out the buds (I hadn't checked them this week), and the buds can't take that kind of cold. The rest are coming inside tonight.

Wow. I can't believe it got that cold. I grew up in Southern California (La Jolla). I don't remember it ever getting that cold there.

We've had unseasonably warm weather here...but I think the cold is starting to roll in. I hope it does not last. I am not a fan of the cold! Also, I can't wait to start my vegetable garden again!

Well, Diane, I guess you might as well let them move you to Colorado. Of course, my cymbidiums have been inside since late September.

Gosh Diane that seem odd for sunny CA. We have had a ton of rain here. Up Gin's way, it is FROZEN. I hope you all keep the cold weather. The rain (flood) here is enough!!

Vancouver Canada (a warm place up north) got quite a bit of snow too and their trees in parks suffered. Large trees actually fell over I know this is serious, but it's a little funny watching not-winterized cars sliding in all directions on the news. Its freezing where I am so I'm used to it

The weather is just not acting right anywhere lately . I'm in Atlanta and it was a heavenly 70 degrees today, dig out the t-shirts! I enjoyed my change from normal though, don't imagine a streak in the 20's would be quite as nice...

It is really unseasonably cold here in the southern California desert. Down to 26 last night and we have winds too. Just west of us on I 8 cars were turned back if they didn't have chains as it was snowing in the mountains. San Diego was very cold with high winds. On I 8 from Yuma, AZ to our valley had very high winds and almost no visibility due to blowing sand. It was only 31 in Yuma at noon a couple of days ago. Being a bunch of desert rats we don't have the clothes for this kind of weather. Lots of layering going on. But I am so grateful that I am not in Missouri right now, I hate those ice storms. Lived through a lot of them when living in Ohio.

Yeah, Edmonton - I remember the first time I went there on business many years ago. I walked out to the rent a car lot and was REALLY IMPRESSED that it was such a progressive city! All the cars were electric..... at least that is what I thought (Native Californian here). I mean, all the cars had plugs in the front.! The attendant explained that those were plugs for the engine block, to keep it from freezing. I made a vow never to go there in the winter! And never have!
