Blc. Cattleya Repotting

Hello All;
I recently purchased a Blc.Goldenzelle x Blc. Oh Susannah, and when this beauty stops blooming I am guessing it'll be re-potting time for the first time in a very long time. I had to use a knife to pry out the plant info. stake, the roots had attached to it years ago. I am not sure but it looks like it is currently potted with those hydro clay balls, charcoal, and unidentifible other stuff. When I repot it would it be okay to put it in one of those lined hanging baskets with med. mixed bark? I'm new at the catt's and don't want to hurt this big beautiful thing. Here's a couple pics...you'll see why i couldn't resist this one. It's scented so strongly I had to put the car windows down on the way home!

With good humidity in florida I don't see why that would not work. Just keep an eye on the moisture of the medium.

Basket culture like that in your part of the world is very optimal. Let some other Florida growers post their pics of massive catts in those baskets!

I would love to see others baskets full of Catt's...please list them. That will give me ideas, also what do you all use in your baskets? Do you still use wood chips and charcoal?

Connie, I use lava rock and charcoal or just a basket and nothing else but I keep everything outside in the lathe house. My Catts are happy in a Catt sorta way, Just watch out for fungus, it is a B#*@^ in the summer when we have heat,
humidity and if it ever decides to arrive RAIN.

Congrats, Connie! Try lava rock in baskets. Put some spanish moss around the roots and hang some across the top of the basket for some added moisture.

Beautiful one! I have the same cross and yours is way better. Your blooms are much fuller. It's fragrance is very sweet.

Thanx everyone, picked up the hanging fern lined basket today...now if I can find lava rock....would charcoal suffice????
