Thank you too Smartie2000, when i worked for a guy before he was telling me that the use of unopened blooms reduces the chances of self pollination, those plants had Anthers which I guess are the same as pollina !! The mother bloom should have the Anthers removed to prevent selfing !almost all of my blooms are open now, hence the urgency of my question. I disected one of my fallen blooms but wasn't sure of where the style was situated.. I'll count myself lucky though as my first attempt is with phal's.. :o) J

Hm, I will look into the re-install. Right now when I click the forums button and then propagation is takes me to the Culture forums instead of the propagation list. Anyone else have this problem?

orchids don't exactly have a style or anthers, they just have one organ called a column since the male and female parts are fused together. For most orchids the female receptical,the stigma, is on the underside of the column and it is a hole that looks shiny inside.
Some people actually spit on the pollenia to break down the ID proteins before placing them on the stigma. This is supposed to help the stigma accept the pollenia since some females reject the males if she does not like him based on the ID. I've had a few rejections already on phals...

You are correct. I somehow have two links going to the same place. I guess it is time to update the toolbar. I found a spelling mistake in the pop up text over the OT links too. I have actually been working on an IE version of the toolbar. It is just alot harder to program. I am close though. Look for an update in a few days. - hopefully.

Smartie, thanks. I went for the spit method !! I'm gonna sound real thick now,,,
They didn't seem to have any type of pollen like I'm familiar with !!! , so I placed ball and all into the column ! Trial and error !

they have pollenia that is acutally many many (thousands?) pollen grains stuck together, very different from other plants

Sounds like you did it right. There is one hole on a phal's column (other than the hole the pollen came from) so its hard to make a mistake. You will know if the pollen is accepted when the tissue around the stigma closes over it and swells a little. I think the lip also closes on phals. Then the petals/sepals will wilt, and I forget how long to wait until the pod matures.
