NEW PAPH. HYBRID???

Hello everyone. Just did some trial pollination tonight with my Paphs. Just wondering if any one knows if a cross between Paph. Deperle and barbatum var "lofty" has been made yet???? that's the cross I did tonight and fingers crossed it will take....
If this cross has been made is there a registered name for it?
Kind of new to the hybridizing thing and anxious about the results. I have access to a lab that will sow seed fro me for a small fee, and am wondering if this cross was worthwhile in your opinion.

just put in the name of the parents used and ifit has been registered it will give you the name.

I did try the cross you made and it doesn't look as though it has been registered.

Do you have pics of the flowers?

Interesting cross, Deperle is a cross between primulinum and delenatii... and to add barbatum to it which is one of the species which has been used in breeding for the 'maudiae-type' slipper orchids. It would be interesting if the dorsal and colour of barbatum comes through in the cross.

Thanks for that. I will follow link and let you know what flowers look like this evening. I do have a pic or two of the parents at the moment so will post them later today.

WOW!!! I hope it does take too! Would love to see how the babies on these turn out! Did you do the reverse cross as well? Or just one way?

No I did not reverse it, in hindsight maybe I should have....bugger! oh well, let's keep fingers and toes crossed. The pollen was from the Deperle and the stigma pollinated was the barbatum's.

Thank you ishel1... These are some of the easier to grow ones for me here and every year I have been blessed with their fabulous flowers. I definitely recommend you get some of these as they really are very rewarding and simple to culture. Word of warning though, the Deperle tends to drop flowers if temperatures get to high!!! found that out the hard way this year as mine dropped 2 blooms after we had 42C days this summer and night time temps only dropped to 31C.
As for the pictures, credit must go to my camera...he he he.

If you have any seeds left after you flask do you think you'd be willing to part with some?

I'm going to attempt to flask some Phal pods this summer but want to give Paphs a try too!
Sadly my partner and I have a larger Phal collection than Paphs....

Do you know if I can save the pollen from one to pollinate another later if you don't have two blooming at the same time?
