I thought this pictoral story of tragedy and redemption might be entertaining.
Our poor birch tree on the right foreground this winter:
ended up looking like this:
I couldn't see using it for firewood and found out here that they work well for mounts.

Unfortunately, the sheet moss from the box store smelled horrible when wetted, so I had to dig into the reserve stash - I am quite fond of my mosses in the back and really try not to disturb them, but this was a worthy cause. The mounding stuff does not work well, it is too waxy:
You need the felty stuff:
Add an orchid - Bulbo lobii 'Kathy's Gold' AM/AOS HOS:
I decided this one needed a perch:
For the rest I mounted the plant to the bark (Epi stamfordianum):
Then added the moss with more fishing line:
Darwinara Charm 'Blue Star', HCC/AD/AOS
And, happy orchids I hope will redeem our sad tree (from left is Ascocenda Princess Mikasa 'Select', Epi, Darwinaria, Bulbo ):
