Amazing Plant

I'm not sure what this is, my Mom bought a couple of bulbs mail order and gave me one. This sprang from it an bloomed in about 3 weeks. AMAZING.

That is an amarilis flower. They come in many colors. Yours is beautiful!

Looks like my favorite -- "Red Lion". While I have had several over the years, I've never had any luck in getting them to rebloom. Neat how you can just about watch the flower stalk grow.

I agree with Paul that it is Red Lion. Plant it in a garden(full to bright sun) and you should get a bloom next spring.

I just rebloomed mine from last year. I let it do its thing until fall, i.e. kept watering, gave it almost full sun and didn't cut the leaves. That is how the plant makes the bulb for the next year and fills it with nutrients. Then when the leaves die back of their own accord, cut the dry leaves, unpot the plant, cut off the roots and store it in a cool, dark place.

This year, I had put mine (no roots, no light, no water, no dirt) in a cool pantry like place that is very dark and one day when I went looking for something else I noticed that is had a flower stalk a good 8 inches long. Completely white! It looked pretty funny! I took it back into the light, potted it, etc, and it regained its color. Plus I got a second stalk. :-)

Yes they are amazing. I have a whole garden full that are just coming into spike. The great thing about them is that they self propagate. Plant one and next year you'll have three.
