That one got some wonderful colours going on. What's a good phrag to start with (I'm going paphs already, just haven't earned any blooms yet)?

They are SOOOOOOOOOO addictive!
If they are not flowering then give them brighter light, in the spot where you have your Catts from memory. If you can't flower Catts there, you certainly will do well with Paphs.
I just got another 4 for my collection (which is getting ridiculous now!)
micranthum, armeniacum, and Iantha Stage.
If you ever need some in depth culture tips with these, feel free to ask. I guess I would not consider myself an expert but I've had great success with this genera.

Excellent colour on it!

longifolium will bloom when it feels like it. Seems that way with many phrags, no special temp drops or other stuff. longifolium can bloom for long periods, and mature plants can stay in bloom for long time as the spike fades new growths fill in. This vigor makes it very desirable when hybridizing. One day my longifolium may have to stay permanently on the windowsill...I have also bloomed this one successfully underlights

Hybrids from Himantopetalum section can tolerate lower lighting and are compact, such as Phrag Mary Bess (caricinum x besseae), Phrag Ecua-Bess (pearcei x besseae) and Phrag Will Chantry (klotzscheanum x besseae). They can grow well under lights and multiply quickly

My Randy Macdonald has become multiple growth very fast too. This plant can get larger leaves and should bloom again soon. Mine hasn't had a problem under fluroescent tubes. I bought it as a division and I promised a friend a division once he moves to his new house.

The only ones that don't seem to thrive under tubes are caudatum types...their leaves burn under them and yet they need the high light

excellent cultivar! besseae can tolerate minicatt light (NOT full standard catt light) if you ease it slowly. the leaves will be light green. most people fertilize very sparingly as it does NOT tolerate salt buildup. the best color comes with good strong light and cool temperatures, a difficult combination.

Love the color... I've always oggled at the bessrea phrag's. That orange-red has such a hot feel to it.
