Here's a self cross that I attempted on 09/01/2008.
I did not take pictures of the actual pollination process, as it is just the same as any other cattleya pollination process.
I crossed two flowers (pollen from one, going to the stigma of the other, and vice versa).
Here are the two pods on 09/07/2008. The pods grew fast considering they are only 6 days old at this point.
Since both pods were progressing nicely, I decided to cut one pod to allow the plant to focus more energy on one pod.
Here is the seed pod on 09/23/2008. This pod will be HUGE!
I plan on having a lab or professional flasking service process these seeds for me. I just cant get the time to practice and get the equipment for performing the flasking myself.
Since this is a self cross, I am not expecting much variation on the offspring. But who knows, I might hit the lottery and end up with an exceptional variation
It will probably be another 5 to 7 months before this seed pod matures. So we will see what happens then.
I looked at the seed maturation chart and cattleyas depending on the parentage can take from 5 to 9 months.
