    Default Disaster Averted

So, I must share some of my panic with people who will actually understand . . . so thanks for reading.

This morning at 1 a.m., my son woke up crying. When I got out of bed, I realized my room was FREEZING--the thermostat said 47 degrees. Since my husband was also awake at this point, he ran up and took care of our son and I ran to the greenhouse. (Okay, that makes me sound like a bad mom, but it wasn't like I'd left him to cry, he was taken care of.) The greenhouse was down to 39-40 degrees!

Our furnace had quit for as-yet unexplained reasons. Bear in mind my house is just over a year old--and so this is a brand new furnace. Oh, and this is the second time in a month that it has broken!

So I panicked, got a couple of space heaters and a warm mist humidifier to try and raise the temperature. (This of course meant that I didn't get a spaceheater in my bedroom, but sacrifices must be made. And I did keep the kids warm too--so I'm not that bad a mom am I?) I'm still sort of panicked--if my son hadn't woken up, I probably wouldn't have checked the greenhouse until morning when I would have had racks of frozen orchids!

The repairman is supposed to come today--sometime between now and midnight (sheesh!), and I want to say to him fix this problem or next time you are going to have to replace an orchid collection! Aaaaaaaah!

I've checked everything out, and so far there is only two plants with the tell-tale leaf damage. Hopefully they just had a bit of water on them and the rest are fine.

So thanks for listening, I know you understand.
