No one but other orchid-nerds will understand... so I post here: I shyly brought three plants to my society meeting for judging yesterday (first time ever -- Hobbyist class), and earned two red ribbons (one for an Aliceara, one for a Phal.) and a blue (for an Encyclia bractescens). I feel greatly encouraged, and learned a lot. Give it a go yourself if you haven't already!
