M. citrinella (subsection Oscillantes) was first discovered in 1981 by Benigno Malo, growing epiphytically in the cloud forest between Loja and Zamora, Ecuador at an elevation of 1900m.

This is a cool - intermedite growing species that requires high humidity and excellent air movement.Flower size 2cm, tails 3cm. Plant size 5cm.

The species name derives from the latin citrinellus, "lemon yellow".
