Mostly grown in Sout-East-Asia is the KAFFIR LIME, rarely seen in the West.
It is indeed a member of the CITRUS family and green like a lime, but the
peel/skin is bumpy and the flavor different too. Kaffir Limes, also known as Kieffer Lime, Limau Purut or Makrut in Thai, are native to Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia and Indonesia. Both the leaves of the plant as well as the
rind/peel of the fruit are exceptionally fragrant and widely used in Asian cooking, esp. in Thai cuisine such as soups (Tom Yam Kung, Tom Kha Kei) and of course curries. Some Asian speciality shops import them fresh, esp. the leaves and are indispensable/exquisite for oriental cuisine. Try them!
Cheers, Michael
