Okay, my aunt purchased a Dendrobium orchid from box store today. She wanted this particular plant because it had these deep purple flowers she’d never seen before.
Well, I took a look at it when she brought it home and… some of its roots are rotten, brownish and mushy and it’s planted in this volcanic rock. It’s just barely starting to bloom, because all of its blossoms are still wrapped up little buds. What do I do? Should I pull it out, clip the dead roots, and put it back in the same container? Should I pull it out, clip the dead roots, and put it in the same container with different medium? Should I leave it alone (will it be okay if I did that)? Or should I repot it completely?
Second, I myself got a beautiful white Phalaenopsis at a tropical plant store. Yeah, thought I’d give it a shot. Here’s the issue with that, it’s in full bloom and it’s got this pot inside this other pot, wedged in there with foam. Here’s the problem, the inside pot has a tray in the bottom and since I can’t get to it, I can’t dump out any excess water. I don’t think it will drain. Repot or… what? I’m worried it will start to rot if I wait for it to stop blooming. What do I do?
