I had the fright of my life when I noticed the visual markings left by the early stages of spidermite attack on my indoor windowsill garden 1 cymbid plant. I remember the struggle with these years ago but outside at place i lived before now. Dont thing I ever succeeded and was quite nice to relocate and leave all indoor/ outdoor garden stuff behind. I started again with ideal SE facing windows and perfect opp to get serious with orchids. 2 yrs now.

Being aware of the widespread resistance with mites against chemicals, the hit/miss battle with bio controls and nat ingreds I found a new miticide dev. called forbid 4F from US. BUT there is very very little feedback/ reviews on net. Got a small dose imported. Its pricey like some of the other top mite chems in US.

I had nothing to lose as prev experience tells me and phytotoxicity was a big worry. I used 0.5 ml per 2 litres rainwater. And prayed for its evolutionary new scientific translaminar science to work and work quick. I have phals. paphs, phrags, cyms. oncs, cycnh, bulbos, catts, dendros, and many more to amount to about 100 in total potted and mounted. The carnivorous died, christmas cacti had leaf loss and the Orchids were absolutely fine!!!!!!!!!!! except 3 restrepias. Infestation obliterated in may and nothing returned till this date.

I always keep humidity high, spray x2 daily, feed weekly weakly. This has acted as a good deterent. Found out cymbids are high on red/2spot mites menu. It does raise one issue. Keeping humidity up keeps pots on the moist side and continually remedying rot roots. Is there no middle ground. Im trying to mount everthing. it seems better with my spray regime.
