Hi all! I have made some things that I like to call "maskets". I took treefern pieces and some hardware cloth and sorta made a mashed up hybrid of mounts and baskets. Eventually, (I hope) the plants will take over and grow all over the things more in the way of mounts. The problem is that I used sphagnum that I pressed into sheets to line these things. While they look lovely, they smell mildewy. I was concerned for the plants when I noticed this, so I started "unmasketing" one of them to repot and saw tremendous root growth! Anyone know of anything to use that would give me a good shot of killing off the mildew/fungus and still allow the algae/moss to live?
I am using these for a bulbo and a stanhopea growing outdoors. I have decent enough air movement, considering the fact that I am not blessed with great humidity.
