In the spirit of that surgeon guy on 'The Simpsons'....
Hey everybody!
On sunday i picked up two 10L buckets full of straw, compost and peat-can you guess what it was for?
Yep, my own mushroom farm! I love mushrooms, but ONLY the edible types, so dont go getting any funny, mixed up ideas about me ok?
These buckets were innoculated with the button mushroom mychorizae, which are great for tossing through salads and quickly frying up. The woman i bought these off also orders in Portobello Mushroom buckets, the mushrooms of which we LOVE in this household, but i havent got any of them yet.
So pretty much, i just keep these in my garage, where the slugs, snails and ants cant really bother them too much, where they get a little bit of heat in the day and where they dont get wet spots from the rain/morning dew. Apparently they do better if you cover them with some newspaper, but i havnt done it yet. The blue bucket is almost ready for our second harvest, the first was from the red bucket and we gave them to my grandad-he loves his 'shrooms too!
For now dear friends, feel free to ask any questions, and admire the wonder that is the fungal world-in a bucket!
Both buckets-and the mister
Button Mushroom bucket #1
Button Mushroom bucket #2 - with second harvest!
FYI-each bucket produces enough in ONE harvest for 2 1/2 meals for four people. Each bucket will last anywhere between 7-11 weeks, providing you care for them properly!
