Hi
I'm new here
I've recently acquired this cute little blooming Phaleanopsis about 3 weeks ago. I'm new to orchids but am very interested in "doing it right" so I've been reading up on them. I've noticed that none of the Phal varieties that I've seen online have variegated leaves like mine. Any mention of yellowing seems to be a sign of distress....but the yellowing is even on all of the leaves and it's blooming like crazy. The leaves are not droopy or wrinkled. I've seen a picture of variegated Phal's online called "Phal Chi Shang Stripes Variegeta" and they look just like mine - down to the color of the blooms. I'm having a tough time getting my pic to upload so hopefully it works.
I also read a thread somewhere that said that this variegation is introduced through viruses??? if this is true, will it be a hazard to my other plants and orchids?
current conditions: bathroom with moderate to high humidity due to a walk in shower; light from a skylight (not direct but pretty bright almost all day long); no drafts but the use of a heat light/fan thingy 2 times a day for the shower steam so we can use the mirror.
It has not been fertilized (I was pretty sure you shouldn't do that while it's blooming) but I do have some "epiphyte's delight" that the store suggested.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
B
