I've had my phal for almost a year, so I am going to repot it in a couple of weeks. I've been doing a lot of reading, and I'm going to stick with sphag for now. It suits my watering habits, and so far my orchid has been doing quite well and I can see green healthy roots. I'm meeting a local orchid grower at a show in two weeks to get some clear slotted pots (they also have the bump in the bottom center with slots so there is less media there to stay wet and lots of air circulation).

I wanted to ask the senior members who have success with sphag, if they have any tips for me. I mostly want to know how firmly I should pack the moss around the roots. I know it needs to be packed well enough so that it doesn't come out of the pot when I lift the plant by the leaves, but I also feel like I shouldn't pack it too tight or I won't get good air circulation and it will stay soggy.
