Oncidium sarcodes. Bought as a young plant a few years ago , and has struggled since. But last year I put it into S/H and it made a better bulb – still not large- maybe 4 inches high but barely as thick as my little finger at its maximum. But here is the first spike. A poor thing, IOSPE would say ( see below) with only 8 flowers , about 3-4cm , say inch and a half, natural spread , but rather nice in my eyes.
IOSPE says the spike is 3-6 feet, with 6-8 strongly ascending branches each carrying 3-8 flowers. So my plant has a long way to go !.
IOSPE also says does best on cork or bark ; mmh , I’ll think about that – it’s doing better than before in S/H, so I will be loath to change, and hope/expect it to improve considerably where it is , but maybe I’ll look out for another plant when one of our Brazilian friends next comes to UK and try that on a plaque..
