Hi, my name is Sandra and I am looking for some help. Back in May, I bought a phal in one of the box stores. It was full of flowers and looked beautiful. After all the flowers died off, which was about a month later, I noticed some of the leaves turning yellow and brown. I removed it from its pot and saw it had root rot. So, I went online and found this forum. After reading numerous posts, I decided to be brave and follow some of the advice given to others with similar problems. I cut off all the rotted roots, which there were many, and repotted it in new orchid medium. As of today, it has grown tons of new healthy roots. Last month while in the same store, I saw another phal, at reduced price. It had no flowers and didn't look fit for sale. I felt bad for it and decided to rescue it. When I got it home I removed it from its pot and washed away all the muck in it. I cut the rotted roots back, which left it with little tiny nubs. All the leaves started to wither and turn brown and yellow. It had one leaf that still looked healthy. It did not seem to be growing any new roots. But about a little over a week ago I noticed it was growing a tiny new leaf and finally a new root. My question is can I cut the leaves that are dying off, or, do I wait until they fall off. I really want to give it every chance to rebound. I have attached pics I took today. As you can see, it has a new leaf and a new root. Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated. Thanks to all.
