So I found a phal that was on its way to the dump and took it in, this past spring. Over the summer it started doing remarkably well, putting out leaf after leaf, and new roots. A couple of the roots were growing skyward. I laughed, as I always felt teased (hoping they were a spike). I tend to look at my orchids daily...ever searching for a spike or new growth. I even keep them on my dining room table so that I wont miss any thing new happening.
Imagine my surprise when I looked at the "revived orchid" yesterday to see a six inch spike reaching towards the window. Im pretty sure my eyes nearly bugged out. I know my jaw dropped. I cannot begin to fathom how I missed it. That being said, I was suddenly struck by this little symbol of hope and regeneration, and I found myself misty eyed. It almost feels like the orchid is giving me a spike out of gratitude.
I know this sounds crazy, but Im sure it would sound even crazier to my friends and family than it would to you guys : )
