    Default Amorphophallus konjac

We'll this isn't an orchid but it is cool. This is the largest bloom mine has gotten, it measures 55 inches from the top of the bulb to the point of the center part of the flower. The flower only last about a week but does smell of dead mouse. The aroma is not overwhelming but does spread nicely throughout the house. konjac is a close realative of the famous A. titanum but konjac is smaller and much easier to grow. The flower is technically an inflorescence one "branch" of many little flowers. If you look down the center of the flower you can see many seperate male and female flowers. When not in bloom it sends up this huge divided leaf that looks like a small tree. It is usually 3-4ft tall and is quite atractive. I grow mine in a large pot outside all summer and in the fall the leaf falls off and it goes dormant so all you have to store is the bulb. No huge plant to haul in the house. It does give off little bulbs so you have plenty to share with your friends.
