Used to be Odontioda , when one of the parents was an odontoglossum - now that parent is called Rhynchostele bictoniensis . The other is an Oncidium - Hans Koch. This makes an Ons ( and I have forgotten what that is an abbreviation for).
I have previously grown the clone "Alpine" which has larger flowers but is much lighter in tone ; I was delighted when this ( re-make, I suspect) flowered and turned out so dark ; I'm sure it is award material, somewhere, when I grow it a bit bigger - so I have given it the clonal name Black Beauty in preparation.
Flowers are only 7cm across - but that is the same as previously awarded clones, all of which are much pinker and less dramatic. But it could, should, and maybe one day wil have branched spikes with flower number well into double figures. Here's hoping.
Grown in S/H in Hyroleca - which this kind of ex-odont seems to be happy in.
