Ons Quedlinburg

Good big flowers these, 10cm natural spread. The cross is Onc Countess x Ons Burkhard Holm - the latter is a name well known to me, but not the former. The parentage , perhaps surprisingly shows more than 50% Onc alexandrae , which is the latest name for what I knew as Odontoglossum crispum when the world was young ( and middle aged too - alexandrae only comes into the picture when odontoglossum is banished as a genus name, i.e. post 2005 ).
It has been a struggle to get this to flower, at least 3 years since it was a "FS plant" , but now it has three leads, and a total of about 15 flowers. Still not at its best I think - another genus here which will benefit from turning down the stat a notch or two, perhaps. My plan is to leave the daylight thermostat settings or even go up a degree, and turn down the night time ones by a couple of degrees - widening the diurnal shift ; based on my experiences in jungles where it is always colder at night, than I had espected or read. Maybe its just wind chill factor, but whatever.
