Smile what is the best way to repot a sedirea japonicum?

i have a sedirea japonicum that I purchased in California this spring. The blooms have now faded and the plant grew a nice new leaf. There is also a very nice new root.
as you can see on the picture. the plant is in a rather deep pot and seems to want to jump out of the pot there are some dead roots below the plant.
the roots are now out of the pot and are two to three inches longer than the pot, they hang on the little tray with pebbles that I keep constantly moist. The medium appears to be basalt rock and bark. (not sure.. i have not lifted this plant out of the pot).
it has been suggested that I repot this plant like a neo
any suggestions and links to videos etc..?
I dont have one of these fancy pots.. could I improvise something?
