Hello all I'm new to these forums

I'm also new to growing orchids, I was given a phalaenopsis about a year ago. I have it under four CFL's and it's doing pretty well as far as I can tell, I got six nice flowers this past winter-

I'm very proud of this accomplishment! lol There was a lot of mystique surrounding orchids in my mind when I started and I honestly wasn't expecting to get any flowers so soon.

Anyway, to get to my question- Will flowering disrupt new leaf growth? My orchid had four leaves when I got it and after it was done flowering this past winter it starting growing some more. It has five now and another is starting to come up, but I noticed the other day that another flower spike has come up, it's already about two inches long. If I let it grow I'm guessing the plant will devout most or all of it's energy to flower production. Would it be advisable to cut it and let the new leafs come fully in? Also, I have a root that has come in between leaves, like the spike does. Will that cause any problems if left to grow?

This is what the plant currently looks like-
