Hello all!

I am so excited that in my 5 years of orchid practice I have my first DOUBLE SPIKE! Also this is the 3rd time this particular dendrobium has been in bloom since adding it to my collection about a year or so ago. I am assuming it's thanks to this perfect weather I have while in school on the island of St. Maarten. This brings me to my questions:

1. Is my orchid blooming so often (and the double spike) because it's unhappy? I do know that other plants may flower as a last-ditch effort when they are sick, but are orchids different? I try to take very good care of my orchids, and I would hate to find that my plant is unhappy. I'd prefer to be excited, thinking that my happy plant is just showing off.

2. When I return to Michigan, how can I replicate these weather conditions to keep my orchids happy? Terrariums, greenhouses, anything! (all expenses aside...I'm just doing the research here and thought I'd come to the professionals to do so!)

3. Can anyone ID the orchid for me?

Thanks, my orchid-loving friends!!
